Artist Statement

Art is my way of dealing with the world thought it i have created a visual language with which I question and discuss current issues.

My main themes often surround my interest in Caribbean history, aspects of my transient life and other elements of Caribbean culture, often questioning why we do what we do.

My current focus surrounds the issues of Self Acceptance as a Black Caribbean Woman. I am interested in our hair routines, colour complex and social structures. I am currently investigating the role of the woman and the expectations of her from society both traditionally and today.

Trying never to limit the work I range in materials that best suit that specific work, these materials include but are not limited to metal, soap, wood and wax.

I often used drawing, sculpture and photography to create bodies of work.

The work titled “this is my body and you have no rights to it #1” begins to discus issues women are faced with such as weight and its relations to beauty and the rigid structure surrounding it.
